HILLARY CAN'T AND WON'T BE RATTLED...NOT BY TRUMP...NOT BY ANYBODY

After reading the commentary below, please express your own thoughts.  Instructions on how to do so are written at the bottom of this column.  Thank you

Donald Trump has badmouthed practically all of the other 17 original contenders for the Republican nomination.  The real estate mogul has teased and belittled his opponents like a playground bully who torments the weaker kid.  Donald Trump is a spoiled brat.

Time and time again...Trump has spewed out the following venomous insults.

He has accused Ted Cruz of being..."Lyin' Ted."

He mocked Jeb Bush for having... "low energy."

He was critical of Marco Rubio... calling him..."Little Marco."

And he offended Carly Fiorina by saying, "Look at that face.  Would anyone vote for that?"

Of course, there have been numerous other viciously disrespectful put-downs throughout this last year.

But recently, Trump has begun to take on the Democratic Party front-runner with his new rude and abusive nickname for the former Secretary of State...calling her..."Crooked Hillary."

Trump's strategy - if that's what it is - to verbally attack Hillary Clinton will not be a winning game plan should the billionaire businessman clinch the GOP nomination.  Striking with loathsome lies will backfire big-time.

Donald Trump thinks that he can do to Secretary Clinton what he has done to his Republican competitors.  But Mrs. Clinton will not succumb to Trump's tactics.  She will crush him like a bug.

Hillary Clinton cannot and will not be rattled...not by Donald Trump...and not by anybody else.

Hillary Clinton is a strong woman who has proven to me...over and over and over again...for 25 years...that she can...and will be...a powerful President.  And millions of other people throughout the United States - and all around the world - agree with me.

Everyone from political pundits to "John and Jane Q. Public" have been warning Americans nationwide that a race for The White House between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump would be dirtier and nastier than Campaign 2016 has already been to this point.  But Secretary Clinton will not stoop to Trump's level at the bottom of the barrel...and she will not put up with his vulgarities.  Instead...Mrs. Clinton will aggressively bombard and blast Trump with that which is most important to the American electorate...the issues concerning our country.  And Secretary Clinton will cut Trump down...and she will chop him up in to little pieces.

As our nation's 45th President - which I remain confident she will be - nobody will "ruffle the feathers" of Hillary Clinton.  She will not be intimidated by the likes of Russia's Vladimir Putin...or North Korea's Kim Jong-un...or Bashar al-Assad of Syria...or by any other world leader who might be a threat to the U.S.A..  So, if they can't tackle Hillary Clinton to the ground (metaphorically speaking)...neither will Donald Trump.

And that's The Controversy for today.

WHAT IS THE "OPEN BOOK" ON DONALD TRUMP?

After reading the commentary below, please express your own thoughts.  Instructions on how to do so are written at the bottom of this column.  Thank you.

Do Republicans know everything there is to know about Donald Trump?  Does all of America?  The answer, of course...is no.

The people of our nation only know the surface of Trump.  Oh sure, we know that he's a megalomaniac who has badmouthed everybody from the President to the Pope...from a decorated war hero to entire religious and ethnic populations...and to anybody else who gets in his way...or doesn't agree with him.  But, as I indicated in my Saturday, April 23rd, 2016 commentary...the media - especially the 24-hour cable networks - have given Trump...what I call - "campaign contributions" - by providing him hours upon hours...of what - in all intents and purposes - comes down to...free advertising.  They did it again on Tuesday, April 26th when Trump gave his victory speech following his sweep of five primaries.  It was another one of Trump's "off the cuff" monologues...that quickly became a full-blown press conference that was covered live for more than half an hour.

Since the media has handed over to Trump an exorbitant amount of exposure on a silver platter...when will reporters start letting the American public know the inside scoop on Donald Trump?

Trump has somehow attracted a large portion of the Republican electorate through his "rough and gruff" demeanor.  And although it continues to amaze me that people have supported him through Campaign 2016...I must sit back and wonder when we are going to find out what really makes Donald Trump tick.

For nearly a year now, we have heard Trump brag about his deal making.  And the real estate mogul has touted his skills on how great he is as a negotiator.  But I have to ask the question...is he ethical?

When Donald Trump is behind closed doors in his swanky, Manhattan office...what really goes on?  Has Trump ever found himself - late at night...or in the wee overnight hours - in the backseat of a super-stretch limousine...in the bowels of an empty, dark parking garage...while making a deal that is not altogether - for the lack of a better word - "kosher?"

Mind you...I - in no way - am making any accusations or allegations.  I am merely asking legitimate questions...which I expect to be asked by the investigative journalists from our country's top newspapers and television networks.

Trump continues to boast about how he will make trade deals with other nations' leaders.  But how does he actually make deals?  Are his methods those that would make Americans cringe...or would we feel proud?  Again...these are reasonable and honest questions to ask.

I would like inquiries to be made to some of the people that Donald Trump has worked with over the years.  And I want to hear from other corporate executives - large and small - who are part of his company...or companies who he's negotiated with...who have been involved with Trump...when he has made some of the deals that has helped him to become the industrial giant that he has been for decades.

Someone needs to dig up...the "Donald dirt."  But...if he's squeaky clean...then so be it and God bless.

Because of being First Lady of Arkansas...First Lady of The United States...a U.S. Senator from New York...and our nation's Secretary of State... we know pretty much everything there is to know about Hillary Clinton's entire life... even going back to her childhood.  And of course...there's little we don't know about her husband...former President  Bill Clinton

Mrs. Clinton has been vetted by the public...and by governments...time and time again.  But Donald Trump's political experience only spans less than ten-and-a-half months.  And although he was in the public eye as a TV personality - as host of NBC's The Apprentice and The Celebrity Apprentice - there has been no deep excavation and microscopic probe...of this man...who millions of Americans are hoping will be the President of The United States.

I personally do not have the resources to explore and scrutinize the nearly 70 years, which today make up the person known as...Donald Trump.  But journalists who have the backing of major media monstrosities...they do.  I, therefore, implore my "press peers"...to discover whatever there may be...good or bad...and to then inform American voters...of the "nuts and bolts" of Donald Trump.

It's obvious - I think even to Bernie Sanders - that Hillary Clinton will be chosen the Democratic Party's nominee.  And - as I always have been - I remain completely confident...that Secretary Clinton will be elected our nation's 45th President.  However - on the Republican side - should Donald Trump be selected the GOP nominee...we, the people of The United States...must be able to read every chapter - from birth...to boyhood...to billionaire businessman - about the life of Donald Trump.  And it needs to be...an "open book."

And that's The Controversy for today.

CAN REPUBLICANS STOP DONALD TRUMP?

After reading the commentary below, please express your own thoughts.  Instructions on how to do so are written at the bottom of this column.  Thank you.

Are we looking at a Ted Cruz/John Kasich or John Kasich/Ted Cruz Republican ticket?  With the Texas Senator and the Ohio Governor joining forces, so to speak, on Monday, April 25th...in an effort to stop Donald Trump...has there been a deal made by Cruz and Kasich, so that come the Cleveland convention, such an alliance could overtake the real estate mogul from securing the GOP nomination?  Have the Conservative Cruz and the Moderate Kasich made a pact...that if polling shows the Republicans have a better chance of beating Hillary Clinton in the general election...with Cruz at the top of the ticket...then that's the way it will be?  But, if polling indicates that to defeat the former Secretary Of State...the GOP needs Kasich as the nominee for President... have the two candidates agreed to that plan?

If you read my commentary from Saturday, April 23rd, 2016, you know I'm not a big fan of polling.  Of course, that doesn't mean the Republicans feel the same way.  After all, since they more than likely don't see eye to eye with me on anything, I doubt this matter is any different.

What the GOP doesn't realize is that any political partnership - whether Cruz/Kasich or Kasich/Cruz - will not be victorious over Hillary Clinton.  The Republicans - since June 16th, 2015 - have shot themselves in the feet...and stabbed themselves in the backs - by the dirty, nasty campaigns that most of the original 17 candidates ran.  And who's to blame? Sixteen of those 17 candidates.

And why?  Because everybody from Ted Cruz to John Kasich...from Marco Rubio to Jeb Bush...and all the other GOP candidates...should never have put up with the bullying, bellyaching and bitching by Donald Trump...which began on that June day last year.

I'm a lifelong Democrat...and admittedly..I'm more left, more liberal and more progressive than Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Ted

Kennedy and Mario Cuomo combined.  But I'm realistic in my thinking...and I don't believe that in Washington, DC... and throughout our country...that Bernie Sanders could achieve most of his Socialististic goals.

As regular readers of The Controversy are well aware...I am a staunch supporter of Secretary Clinton...and I am completely confident that the former New York Senator will not only win the Democratic nomination, but that she - the former First Lady - will be moving back in to The White House on January 20th, 2017...after being elected the 45th President Of The United States this year on November 8th.

All that being said, it's the fault of Donald Trump's original 16 competitors...who allowed the billionaire businessman...to stomp all over them.  Cruz and Kasich ganging up on Trump now...is something they should have done...a long, long time ago.

So can the GOP stop Trump with a pairing - one way or the other - of John Kasich and Ted Cruz?  Possibly.  But more importantly...Cruz and Kasich...Donald Trump and a running mate...or any Republican-nominated duo...will be stopped in the general election by Hillary Clinton and her yet to be named Vice President.

Thankfully for the Democrats...the Republicans have verbally pummeled each other for nearly a year now...and by doing so...they have assassinated (metaphorically speaking) not only themselves...but their entire political party.  It's an "Old Party"...that - for more than a century - has called itself..."Grand."  But instead...it's now..."Gone."

And that's The Controversy for today.

THE PREPOSTEROUS PLOY OF POLITICAL POLLING

After reading the commentary below, please express your own thoughts.  Instructions on how to do so are written at the bottom of this column.  Thank you.

Polling...why is it done?  It shouldn't be.

More often than not throughout the 2016 Presidential Election Cycle, it is my staunch opinion that polling has dramatically affected the path for both the Democratic and Republican races.

Polling has swayed people to vote a certain way...which, quite frankly, boggles my mind...because I had hoped that Americans were more independent (lower-case i) and more individualized.  I had also hoped that voters across our great nation were more sophisticated with their thinking.  But unfortunately, it has become altogether apparent that the electorate of our country are simply playing a game of "Follow The Leader."

There is no sane reason that Republican Donald Trump has been able to accomplish the phenomenal feat that has made him the GOP front-runner.  And for Bernie Sanders - an Independent (upper-case I) Socialist, who is running as a Democrat - to have won (at the writing of this editorial) 16 states (plus

Democrats Abroad) with 1,189 pledged and super delegates (to date)...is beyond comprehension.

I blame my own industry - the media...which is responsible for the polling - for the success...to this point...that both Sanders and Trump have been able to attain with their campaigns.

Hillary Clinton should have walked away with the Democratic nomination...with virtually no competition whatsoever.  That being said, the former Secretary Of State has (to date) won 21 states and territories with 1,930 pledged and super delegates.  Mrs. Clinton only needs 453 delegates to definitively become her party's nominee.

As I always have, I still believe that Secretary Clinton will be elected the 45th President Of The United States.  However, the former First Lady should have rightfully locked up the Democratic nomination after "Super Tuesday" on March 1st.  But the muckraking commentators from television, radio, the newspapers, magazines and Internet...wanted a shooting match.  The media has done all that it could to encourage voters that Hillary Clinton was not the only choice for the Democrats in 2016.  And the constant - almost daily - polls and surveys...by the networks and others...have bended the minds of some liberals and progressives...to support a Socialist who cannot sweep the Democratic nomination...and cannot win The White House.

On the other hand - with the Republicans - there is no doubt in my mind that the excessive amount of free advertising that has been provided by every TV news program - especially those that appear on the 24-hour cable networks - has created the monster candidate that is Donald Trump.  After all...one primary night...CNN, Fox and MSNBC each gave Trump approximately 45 minutes...for a victory speech...which was nothing more than a campaign contribution by three major television companies.

The media has practically forced Trump down the throats of Republicans - and for that matter - all of America.  And why?  One word.  Money.  Since the very first Republican Debate, ratings for the broadcast and cable networks have skyrocketed... and viewership has been through the roof.  That equals an abundance of advertising...and that means more money.

But Trump and Sanders voters - in many cases - have been brainwashed in to thinking that the real estate mogul or the Vermont Senator can win the Presidency.  I don't believe that either can.

I'm amazed that American adults have been befuddled by polling...by political pundits...and by others...who want people to think...what they think...because that's what they're paid to do.

Too many voters choose a candidate because they are manipulated by the system...and by the polling numbers that are being provided by TV, radio and the like.  So here's a suggestion to all the media of The United States.  In 2020... #NoMorePolling...during the Presidential campaigns.  Let Americans make their decisions based on credible information...and based on listening to the candidates...not based on numbers.

There are those who call polling and computer models...progress.  I call it...misleading...and deceitful.

And that's The Controversy for today.

     I'm Gary B. Duglin.
