THE END OF TRUMP'S GAME OF "SIMON SAYS"

Donald Trump needs to be taught a hard lesson.  And the United States Congress should do it.  In fact, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives...will indeed do it.

Trump has spent decades as the President of The Trump Organization.  And in that capacity, he has been the one and only boss of his company.  But those days are over come January 20th, 2017.  Once Trump is handed the keys to The White House, he's not going to have his way with everything he wants to do in America... just because "Donald says."

The GOP controlled House...along with the Senate, which is nearly even-steven with 52 Republicans and, in reality, 48 Democrats...are going to set Trump straight if he attempts to think he's..."bigger than his britches"...when he deals with Congress.

In the coming days, it is inevitable that President Obama will impose sanctions on President Vladimir Putin and his Russian Federation for interfering with America's Presidential election on November 8th, 2016, which - without question - affected the outcome of a race that otherwise would have been won by Hillary Clinton.  And Putin - who calls Donald Trump..."His Excellency"...is likely to be floored...when the U.S. Congress continues with Mr. Obama's retaliation against the former KGB leader...after Trump has taken his seat behind The Oval Office desk.  Such action is not only going to anger Putin and put a strain on his "bromance" with Trump...but expect America's "Tweeter-In-Chief" to be banging out all sorts of social media nasties towards the legislative branch of the U.S. government.  Trump's honeymoon with Speaker of the House Paul Ryan will soon be a marriage that results in an annulment.

Our founding fathers created a three-branch system for our country.  And it's my belief that the U.S. Supreme Court will remain an eight-member bench if Trump nominates a Justice who is too conservative; one who supports overturning Roe vs. Wade...the destruction of marriage equality...and the demolition of human rights for all Americans.  Be aware that incoming Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer - Democrat of New York - simply needs to sway three moderate Republicans to go against Trump...and the Senate will never approve any Trump nomination to the High Court.

And then there's..."the wall."  Donald Trump insisted throughout his campaign that Mexico would pay for it.  But our friends to the south...will not.  And Trump better realize quickly that Congress will not authorize one penny of funding for such an expensive and ridiculous venture...which is not necessary nor is the answer to immigration reform.

For eighteen months, Donald Trump has appeared to make his run for President... and the post-election period - in to a television reality game show.  Trump thinks his..."soon to have"...Presidential power...means he's the..."Simon Says"...of Washington, DC and our 50 states.  "Donald says do this" and "Donald says do that."  But Trump is not "Simon."  And although the two chambers of Congress are led by Republicans...our nation's Senators and Representatives will not abide by Trump's rules of the game.  Undoubtedly, the legislators will prove to Trump that all Congress will hear is..."Do this" and "Do that."  And without "Simon"...nobody's going to listen... to Donald.

And that's The Controversy for today.

A PRAYER OF PEACE AND LOVE ON CHRISTMAS AND HANUKKAH

After reading the prayer below, please express your own thoughts.  At the bottom, please click on the word "Comments" below the copyright and type your personal blessing in the box.  When you complete it,  please click on the word "Publish."  Please also share a link to this column with others.

December 2016 just happens to be that rare year when both Christmas and Hanukkah fall on the same day.  The first night of Hanukkah - when Jews light the first candle of the menorah - was Saturday night, December 24th...which was also Christmas Eve night.  And today, Sunday, December 25th...is Christmas Day...the first day of Hanukkah.  So Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah.

Let us hope that this...coming together...of these two hallowed holidays for Christians and Jews...is a beautiful sign - a good omen, if you will - in the hope that people of all faiths...all races...all ethnic heritages...all nationalities...and all political persuasions...can also come together...with a desire to work together...live together...and care for each other.

But such efforts must be a two-way street with all concerned.  Let us pray that we, as a nation...and that we, as a world...can achieve this goal...and that this holiday season will be the beginning of happiness and love always for all Americans and for all others on the planet Earth...and that 2017 will be a healthy, safe and prosperous year filled with peace around the globe.  And may God bless everyone.

I, therefore, forgo my usual "Controversy" sign-off...to the following word.

     Amen.

     I'm Gary B. Duglin.
