WE ARE "STRONGER TOGETHER"...NOT "ALONE"

After reading the commentary below, please express your own thoughts.  Instructions on how to do so are written at the bottom of this column.  Thank you.

Underestimating people is not something any of us should ever subscribe to...and that is more evident and certain today than ever before in our history.

In June 2015...I proclaimed that "Donald Trump is a superstar."  Regular readers of The Controversy are well aware that my politics are totally against those of Trump...and that I have been a staunch supporter of Hillary Clinton for 25 years.  Although I did not think that the billionaire businessman would ever make it to the finish line as the Republican Party's nominee for President...I did state - more than a year ago - that his "celebrity and stardom" would not only be attractive to a wide range of individuals in our country...but that his determination and aggressive nature would appeal to a much larger group of people than most in the media - in fact most in our country - ever thought.  That being said...I never expected Trump to achieve his goal as the GOP nominee...nor did I ever think he would spend the last thirteen and a half months spewing venomous and toxic insults to everyone from Latinos to Muslims...from women to the disabled...from a federal judge to a hero of the Vietnam War...and so many others.  In fact...I had figured that Trump would have buried himself...politically speaking...after each atrocious attack...after each despicable and reprehensible remark.  But, for whatever the reason - and to my astonishment and shock - enough Republicans were able to buy in to Trump's loathsome lunacy.

Donald Trump is not in any way qualified to be America's President.  He is absolutely and categorically unfit to be the Commander-In-Chief of our nation.  And Donald Trump must be stopped.

The way to do that...the way to put an end to the political aspirations of a man who shouldn't even receive more than one vote - his own - is by every American casting their ballots on November 8th for Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine to be the next President and Vice President of the United States.

We as a country...we as a society...cannot allow Donald Trump to get his grimy hands or his slimy mouth anywhere close to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.  We as Americans need to keep Trump far away from The White House and nowhere near The Oval Office.  And I am confident...with Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine on the Democratic Party ticket...that we can...and that we will.

The Republicans at the GOP's convention in Cleveland, Ohio focused their four-day forum on unfair and unwarranted criticism...detestable lies...and hateful hearsay about the honorable former Secretary of State.  But Mrs. Clinton and Senator Kaine must now forge ahead and not stoop to the barbaric and Neanderthal levels of Donald Trump, Governor Mike Pence and their crackpot cronies.  Instead...Secretary Clinton and Senator Kaine must show Americans - Democrats...Independents...and yes, Republicans too - that to be the leader of the free world...the job of President of the United States cannot be successful by doing it "alone"...as Trump has emphatically stated.

With Hillary Clinton as our President...and Tim Kaine as our Vice President...working with and for each and every American...we are...and will always be..."stronger together."

And that's The Controversy for today.

     I'm Gary B. Duglin.

CLINTON-KAINE WILL MAKE DREAMS COME TRUE

After reading the commentary below, please express your own thoughts.  Instructions on how to do so are written at the bottom of this column.  Thank you.

I'm structuring my column somewhat differently today.  I will make a few observations...and share my enthusiasm...but instead of only expressing my own thoughts and views on a particular subject or issue, I am handing The Controversy over to the Democratic Party's Nominees for President and Vice President... Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine.

At their first appearance together - since it was announced that Senator Kaine of Virginia would be former Secretary of State Clinton's running mate - the pair fired up thousands of dedicated supporters at an electrified campaign rally on Saturday, July 23rd, 2016 at Florida International University in Miami...and each of them brilliantly articulated the sentiments noted below.  It was a spectacular event that bolstered and reinforced my confidence that Hillary Clinton needs to be...and will be elected...the 45th President of the United States.

As for "America's future...we are stronger together...and we're going to make that future better."  HILLARY CLINTON

"Donald Trump may think America's in decline, but he's wrong.  America's best days are still ahead of us."  HILLARY CLINTON

Sounding almost dictatorial...Trump egotistically boasted - in his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio - 'I alone can fix it."He's not only wrong...he's dangerously wrong."  HILLARY CLINTON

"We Americans...we solve problems together.  And if Donald doesn't understand that...he doesn't understand America."  HILLARY CLINTON

"In Philadelphia, we will offer a very different vision for our country...one that is about building bridges...not walls."  HILLARY CLINTON

"We know there's nothing we can't accomplish...once we make up our minds."  HILLARY CLINTON

"Senator Tim Kaine is everything Donald Trump and Mike Pence are not."  HILLARY CLINTON

"(Tim Kaine) is a progressive who likes to get things done."  HILLARY CLINTON

"Tim's lifelong commitment to social justice is a shining example of his faith in action."  HILLARY CLINTON

"Tim has used his positions (in the United States Senate) to stand up for our veterans...and our values...and our men and women in uniform...and our security."  HILLARY CLINTON

"At every stage of Tim's career...the people who know him best have voted to give him a promotion."  HILLARY CLINTON

"(Tim Kaine) delivers real results."  HILLARY CLINTON

"Tim also has a backbone of steel.  Just ask the NRA.  Over and over again, he has had the courage to stand up to the gun lobby in their own backyard."  HILLARY CLINTON  (Editor's note: the National Rifle Association is headquartered in Virginia).

(Tim) "fight(s) back against attacks on Planned Parenthood and defending women's right to make our own health decisions."  HILLARY CLINTON

"Tim has led on some of the most important issues facing our country...from voting rights...to LGBT equality...to criminal justice reform...to comprehensive immigration reform."  HILLARY CLINTON

"When someone (Donald Trump) says...'I alone can fix it'...that should set off alarm bells in not just Democrats' minds, but Republicans, Independents, people of all ages and backgrounds.  That's not a democracy."  HILLARY CLINTON

"We fought a revolution because we didn't want one man making all the decisions for us."  HILLARY CLINTON

     "We work together."  HILLARY CLINTON

"When Donald Trump says he has your back...you'd better watch out."  TIM KAINE

"Hillary Clinton is the direct opposite of Donald Trump."  TIM KAINE

"Hillary Clinton...she doesn't insult people...she listens to them.  She doesn't trash our allies...she respects them.  And she'll always have our backs.  That is something I'm rock solid sure of."  TIM KAINE

"I'm one of only twenty people in American history to serve as a mayor, a governor and a United States senator."  TIM KAINE

(Helping each other)..."that's what families do."  TIM KAINE

"We've got to advance opportunity and equality for everybody...no matter where they come from...how much money they have...what they look like...what accent they have...or who they love."  TIM KAINE

"We are so proud of our great nation.  And isn't it great already?  What a great country!"  TIM KAINE

"God has created a rich and beautiful tapestry in this country.  It is a rainbow of cultural diversity that embraces all people...regardless of their race or economic status...regardless of their religion or their gender...regardless of their sexual orientation or where they're from.  We've got this beautiful country that should be a country of welcome...that should be a country of inclusion.  And I know that that is a fundamental value that Hillary Clinton shares."  TIM KAINE

About Hillary Clinton and himself...the Vice Presidential candidate says their "creed is the same.  Do all the good you can."  TIM KAINE

(Hillary Clinton has always been) "fighting for children and families...fighting for equal rights for African-Americans, for Latinos, for people with disabilities, for LGBT Americans."  TIM KAINE

"From working with the Children's Defense Fund...to First Lady of Arkansas...to First Lady of the United States...to Senator...to Secretary of State...(Hillary Clinton) has always delivered."  TIM KAINE

"Hillary and I are going to have a strong progressive agenda."  TIM KAINE

"We're going to make the American economy work for everybody...not just those at the top."  TIM KAINE

"We will make college debt-free for everybody."  TIM KAINE

"Where are Donald Trump's tax returns?"  (And has Trump paid his) "fair share of taxes?"  TIM KAINE

"We're going to fight for paid family leave, equal pay for women and raising the minimum wage to a living wage."  TIM KAINE

"To keep families together...we'll put forward a comprehensive immigration reform package that includes a path to citizenship."  TIM KAINE

"Anybody who loves America this much...deserves to be here."  TIM KAINE

On the "the horror of American gun violence"..."when the vast majority of Americans agree that we have to adopt commonsense gun safety measures...Hillary and I will not rest.  We will not rest."  TIM KAINE

"I've never lost an election."  TIM KAINE

"Do you want a 'You're fired' President...or a 'You're hired' President?  Of course you want a 'You're hired' President.  Donald Trump is the 'You're fired' guy.  We've got a 'You're hired' President. (Pointing to Hillary Clinton)."  TIM KAINE

"Do you want a 'trash talking' President...or a 'bridge building' President?  Donald Trump trash talks folks with disabilities...trash talks Mexican-Americans and Latinos...trash talks women...trash talks our allies...calls the military a disaster.  But (Hillary Clinton) is a bridge builder President."  TIM KAINE

"Do you want a 'Me First' President...or a 'Kids and Families First' President?  With Donald Trump, it's 'Me First.'  I'm not showing you my tax returns.  I'm gonna run a university that will take people's money...and rip 'em off.  Donald Trump was in Britain...when they cast the Brexit vote to leave the EU...and as the British pound - their unit of currency - was getting pummeled, he said, 'Hey this could be good news for my golf course.'  But we've got a 'Kids and Families First' President. (Pointing to Hillary Clinton)."  TIM KAINE

"They don't come any tougher...or any more compassionate...than Hillary Clinton.  So let's go make history and elect Hillary Clinton, the 45th President of the United States."  TIM KAINE

"Together we're gonna win this election and move our country forward." HILLARY CLINTON

The aforementioned quotes are just some of the many, many reasons why "I'm with her"...why all Hillary Clinton supporters are with her...why all Democrats...in fact all Americans SHOULD be with her...and why I am...and why all Democrats and all Americans SHOULD be...with them.  Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine...our next President and Vice President.

Prior to the Miami rally with Senator Kaine...Hillary Clinton talked to a crowd of loyal voters in Tampa, Florida on Friday evening, July 22nd...and she promised Americans the following.  "I will work everyday to make your dreams come true."  I trust that she will for you...and I trust that she will for me.

And that's The Controversy for today.

     I'm Gary B. Duglin.

REPUBLICAN HATEFEST AT CONVENTION

After reading the commentary below, please express your own thoughts.  Instructions on how to do so are written at the bottom of this column.  Thank you.

Just when I thought the Republicans of Campaign 2016 couldn't get any nastier...any uglier...the surrogates of Donald Trump - at the GOP National Convention - became even scummier.  The "hostile Hillary haters" were so disgraceful...that each needs to have his or her mouth washed out with soap.

It is expected at a political convention for one party to be critical of the others' nominee for President.  But I was appalled by the vulgar vocabulary from the likes of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie...Dr. Ben Carson...and Patricia Smith - the mother of Sean Smith who was killed in Benghazi, Libya...just to name a few.  Their atrocious attacks on Hillary Clinton were beyond abusive.

The Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio was nothing more than the GOP's effort and attempt to vocally assassinate the Democratic Party's Presumptive Nominee.  Each night featured multiple speakers - whose intentions were to viciously bash the former Secretary of State - but it was Monday, July 18th and Tuesday, July 19th, 2016...on Days One and Two of the convention... that were despicably dirty.

Spewing venomous lies...former prosecuting attorney Christie - who has been destructive for "The Garden State" as its chief executive - put Secretary Clinton on trial, Tuesday night, before the convention delegates...and then he urged them to respond to his question..."Guilty or not guilty?"  The shouts of "guilty"...followed by chants of "lock her up"...were deplorable demonstrations.

Failed Presidential Candidate...neurosurgeon Carson must have lost his mind Tuesday night...as his brain cruelly connected Hillary Clinton to the devil.  "Are we willing to elect someone as President who has as their role model somebody who acknowledges Lucifer?"  Carson chastised Secretary Clinton for her admiration of author and American community organizer, Saul Alinsky...who Mrs. Clinton used as the subject of her senior thesis in college.  Alinsky noted in his book, Rules For Radicals - as a "tongue-in-cheek" reference - that Lucifer was "the very first radical."

As a caring and compassionate person...I truly feel bad for any mother - or father, for that matter - who has to bury an offspring.  And I can't imagine the devastating anguish and excruciating pain that Patricia Smith will live with for the rest of her life.  Her son, Sean Smith - an information management officer with the United States Foreign Service - was one of the four Americans killed during the assault on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi on September 11th, 2012.  But for Mrs. Smith, Monday night, to wrongfully...and maliciously blame Secretary Clinton... "personally"...for the tragic death of her son...by insisting that Mrs. Clinton "deserves to be in stripes"...well...that is a wickedly contemptible and reprehensible remark.

Instead of concentrating on promoting Donald Trump and the beliefs that have shockingly taken him to the top of the Republican ticket...the GOP Convention was overwhelmingly an anti-Hillary Clinton event. The tone of the convention was more about Trump's opponent...than what Republicans believe their nominee has to offer.  And the reason for that is that Trump has nothing good to offer.  Thus the four-day forum had Trump's sideshow of slimy speakers...screaming their detestable lies about Secretary Clinton.

As for his acceptance speech as the Republican Nominee on Thursday, July 21st...Donald Trump - a dangerous narcissist who is unfit to occupy The Oval Office of The White House - delivered a barrage of abhorrent lies...of savage hatred...and of toxic trash...against Hillary Clinton.

Donald Trump is incapable of being President of the United States.  His convention was chaotic...a mammoth mess...that blew up in the faces of the Trump Campaign... beginning with the plagiarism of certain parts of the speech delivered by First Lady Michelle Obama at the 2008 Democratic Convention...and that a speechwriter used for Donald Trump's wife, Melania...in her keynote address on the first night of the 2016 Republican Convention on July 18th.

If Donald Trump can't properly run his convention...how can anyone think that he could run our country?

But it was a Trump adviser - who is also a New Hampshire delegate - who the U.S. Secret Service needs to keep their eyes focused on...as this individual - while being interviewed on a radio talk show on Wednesday, July 20th - told the host...and everyone on the entire planet when the comment went viral...that "Hillary Clinton should be on the firing line and shot for treason."  To utter such a vile statement is unconscionable and unforgivable.  And the man who said it - whose name I am deliberately omitting from this column - needs to be thoroughly investigated.  Furthermore...since Donald Trump has not - at the time of this publication - fired the adviser...or denounced the loathsome line...I can only wonder if Trump himself...feels the same way.

Politics has become too personal.  The Republican Convention was a repulsive roundup of insane madness.  With at least one delegate wearing a Hillary Clinton mask and handcuffs...placards displaying the phrase, "Hillary For Prison"...plus campaign buttons calling her a "bitch" and stating "Vote No To Monica's Ex-Boyfriend's Wife in 2016"...Republicans have gone too far.  They have crossed the line in to downright dreadful disgust.

On a side note...why would anyone expect Ted Cruz to honor a so-called "pledge"...to endorse whomever the GOP nominee would be?  Donald Trump - for many, many months - called the Texas Senator..."Lyin' Ted."  Trump attacked Cruz's wife...by posting on Twitter...an unflattering picture
of Heidi Cruz next to a glamour photo of Melania Trump - a former model - with the caption reading, "The Images Are Worth A Thousand Words."  And Trump practically accused Cruz's father of being involved...or at least linked in some way...with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.  Did anyone really think...after all that...that Cruz would endorse Donald Trump?

With the brutally evil and foul-mouthed words spoken by Trump...about Senator Cruz and his family...if anything like that was said to any of you...would you endorse Donald Trump?  I don't think so.

A "Hillary Clinton For President" television ad reminds us of some of the horridly offensive insults that Donald Trump has nauseated us with over the last year.  Young boys and girls are seen viewing the spot in disbelief.  And as the commercial ends...the following graphics appear.  "Our children are watching."  "What kind of President will they see?"

We need to be sure that the children of America...and everyone in America...sees Hillary Clinton.  We need to elect Hillary Clinton as the 45th President of the United States.  For the sake of all Americans...for the sake of our nation...and for the sake of our world.

And that's The Controversy for today.

     I'm Gary B. Duglin.
